Plastic Surgery - Would You or Wouldn't You ??

A friend of mine has just recently spent what I would consider to be an exorbitant amount of money on plastic surgery. To borrow a phrase from Bette Midler in the The First Wives Club', she had the "whole enchilada"... full face lift, neck lift, eye lift, tummy tuck and she was liposucked to within an inch of her life.

Now, I won't get started on the enormous pressure on women - and increasingly, on men - to physically conform to a single, unrealistic beauty ideal; a beauty ideal which is invariably damaging to an individuals body image because they it is so narrowly defined, uniform, and hard to achieve, that hardly anybody fits into its specifications....I'm saving that baby for another rant very shortly :)

I'm not sure that plastic surgery is the panacea to the myriad problems that some people may hope for, or that they are always happier afterwards... Having said that, I'm not averse - in principle - to the notion of a bit of a nip and tuck and regardless, strongly believe that it is a person's right to choose and not for others - me included - to judge.

But, I'm very interested in your views and so my question to you all is this: Would you or wouldn't you ? If you would, what would you consider having done (or if you are brave enough to tell, what work have you had done)..... and if not, why not ?

Nah, because if I had my face done up then I'd have to start dressing more appropriately, rather than continue to get around in my tracksuit pants, bare feet, and white sleeveless tops with motor oil stains on them.

Lucky then that I love you just the way you are Tex - oil stains 'n all :) x

Hey, Tex's Missus. Thanks for the comment on my blog and enjoying your's in return. I think I'll have to respond to this one as a blog (with a link to yours of course) but the answer is yes, but of course.

I have considered having breast reduction done because I don't want boobs by my ankles by the time I'm 60.

I just don't know...I think that a lot women hope that by fixing the outside, it will fix the inside. I don't fault that ideal because it's understandable. I am way too cheap to spend that kind of money on myself. I have a "hair" habit that I maintain...as for my face...soap, water, and moisturizer will have to carry me into old age.

I would like a smaller nose and bigger boobs. But I am a wuss (see comment on tattoo post). I had a septoplasty once, but that was for a deviated septum and was the most painful thing ever, so I would for sure not have my nose done, but maybe the boobs.

I won't because I am an absolute Adonis :D. Seriously, its major surgery and not worth the risk, live healthy is my motto and only have operations if they will measurably increase your quality of life.

But then i am a bloke.

To look younger, or reduce (or at least lift) the boobs - I hear you Sarah - no. And I have never even considered I would have it until ...

I am a plus sized Rubenesque beauty and know that if I could ever get the weight off, it is unlikely that, at my age, my skin would tone to meet the new shape. So would I want to be a Saggy, Baggy Elephant (the name of a kids book, not just self-deprecation) for the rest of my life, well no.

So for that reason alone I would consider it, but having said that I imagine it would cost more than a small fortune and that would be a consideration.

Very interesting discussion going on here ...

Moutaingirl,

I used to weigh 107 kilos, I lost about 30 kilos and don't have a problem with saggy skin, I think it depends on the time you take to lose it.

But yeah if I had ended up with saggy baggy skin I would have probably had an op.

I was watching a show on penis size and the trend for enlargement, on sbs last month - no surgeon is going within in 10 feet of my equipment with a scalpel

I'm too damn cheap to spend the money on surgery.

Boob lift, maybe, but I'm too cheap also.. And I don't like the risks involved.

Thanks for the info Sean - there is hope :-) (referring of course to skin tone not penis size ha ha ha)

My opinion on the one eye'd trosuer snake and other body parts is that if its working don't mess with it. No point having a limp baseball bat instead of rigid rolling pin

OMG SEAN! That is hilarious!

Sean Wright said...

Yeah my wife laughed the first time.. oh, you mean the rolling pin reference .

Seriously though the I have never had a problem with image when it comes to the size dept.

I have seen some videos of some well endowed individuals and run in terror though.

Same old, same old isn't it Girls ? We either want smaller or bigger boobs but in general, ver few of us are happy with the size, shape or general level of perkiness of our breasts...

and blokes have issues about the size of their tackle .... although clearly not our friend Sean :)

Interesting responses though and thanks so much to you all for commenting. I wonder, if cosmetic surgery was affordable or claimable under health schemes, would more of us be doing it ? I suspect the answer would be yes...

I don't have an issue about the size of my tackle, and I won't be using viagra when I get older, I'll just get a broomstick to use when I go floppy.
